When adding an account in the authenitcation app, some apps will present two options.

1. Organization

2. Other or something like 2-factor authentication code for third party services.

You want to choose 2-factor authentication for third party services, do NOT choose organization.

THe The easiest way to add the account is to use the Scan a QR code tption.
