Sandbox (UAT) and Production Environments Access

Technology vendors must obtain approval from DPI (UAT) or the LEA (PROD) before data can transmitted through the Wisconsin WISEdata REST API. The Ed-Fi Credential application provides a method for DPI or districts/schools to authorize the transmission of data. Viewing data can be managed via your software or Swagger (UAT only) (See New User Setup: Accounts and Tools or Development ResourcesArchived for more information). LEAs view data submitted to the API via the WISEdata Portal. See the table below for more information on how to access these applications and data management.

Late Summer/Early Fall 2026, WAMS will be discontinued. Effective immediately, please use MyWisconsin ID or Google sign-in when accessing WISEhome. Any roles previously assigned to a WAMS ID will automatically transfer to the new account based on the user’s email address.

WISElogin Credentials and Ed‑Fi Credential Permissions

NOTE: Separate user login credentials (username and password) are required for UAT and PROD environments.

To protect your account and sensitive data, do not share your login credentials. Sharing access can result in account compromise, identity theft, and unauthorized data exposure.

 

User Acceptance Test (UAT)

Available to Developers, Testers, QA using masked or faux data. Production data should not be accessible.

Production (PROD)

Available to real users with access to real student data and limited authorized vendor and/or support personnel.

Obtain a MyWisconsin ID account

Before you can start using the any WISE applications, you'll need to set up a MyWisconsin ID account.

✅ Already Tested in the WISEdata UAT Sandbox?

If you have previously tested in the WISEdata UAT sandbox, proceed to “Obtain OAuth credentials”.

🆕 New to WISEdata? Start Here:

  1. Create MyWisconsin ID Sandbox User Credentials https://apps-uat.wisconsin.gov/

  2. Use your newly created account to access WISEhome (UAT)

Need access to Production? Start here:

Create a MyWisconsin ID account, go to https://apps.wisconsin.gov, and click the Sign-Up link. 

 

Request Ed-Fi Credential Application Access

A MyWisconsin ID account must be created before application permissions can be granted. After a Vendor Access & Inquiry Form has been submitted, please allow 24–48 hours for access to be processed and granted.

Complete the Vendor Access & Inquiry Form with the following details:

  • Inquiry Type: “Request Access UAT Environment (Sandbox)”

  • Company - Product: [SELECT COMPANY]

  • Additional Details: Include your 1) Username/email, and 3) type of access . Example:

    • Include your 1) Username/email and 2) type of access (Vendor vs Support). Example:
      Additional Details:
      MyWisconsin ID/Username: SSMITH-PROD
      Email: Sally.Smith@vendor.com
      Access Level: Support

This information is used to 1) link the MyWisconsin ID to WISE applications and 2) update the Ed-Fi Credential Users. Both of these tasks need to be addressed to ensure access the account is attached to a vendor.

Complete the Vendor Access & Inquiry Form with the following details:

  • Inquiry Type: “Request Access to Ed-Fi Credential Application - Production Environment”

  • Company - Product: [SELECT COMPANY]

  • Additional Details:

State contracted vendors, like MIS2000, submit a Vendor Access Request Form.

Request Access to a WISE Application feature does not work in UAT

Production (PROD)

Available to real users with access to real student data and limited authorized vendor and/or support personnel.

OAuth Credentials

Credentials (Key/Secret) are established for vendors in the UAT environment upon request.

Need LEAs for testing? Vendor Access & Inquiry form Inquiry type - General Question. In the Details section, include the LEA ID and LEA name.

Starting in 2025-2026 and later, LEAs are required to create new vendor subscriptions (Key and Secret) annually. Guidance is available Ed-Fi Credential Application User Guide.

Data Management

Data management

As with the production environment, The Local Education Agency (LEA) and/or its vendor are responsible for overseeing data management. The data within the User Acceptance environment is not a replica of production data; instead, it is under the management of the vendor.

For a vendor to have access to the Ed-Fi API, the Local Education Agency (LEA) needs to use the Ed-Fi Credential application to manage application credentials and define what school year the vendors have access, when applicable to avoid overlapping services. With a Key and Secret and URL, the LEA is able to provide the vendor the appropriate information needed for a vendor to access the API.

Ed-Fi URLs differ by environment and the version of the Ed-Fi API.

WISEhome (DPI Web Application Portal)

Understanding Vendor vs. Agency Roles

To keep the system running smoothly, it’s important to understand how roles work in the WISE applications:

Vendor Role

  • A vendor role must be the only role assigned to an Ed-Fi Credential application user. This application is designed for vendors that provide services to multiple schools or districts.

  • Why is this important? Mixing vendor and agency roles creates a conflict and can cause the application to break.

Agency Role

  • Intended for staff supporting a specific school or district (LEA).

  • Can be combined with other agency-level roles for applications like WISEdata Portal or WISEid, but never with a vendor role.

Ed-Fi Credential Application

WISE Home (UAT) hosts the WISE API/ODS applications you have been granted access by DPI.

The Ed-Fi Credential application provides vendors with valuable information. The menus available include:

  • Profile: Hosts a list of vendors users and Ed-fi URLs

  • Credentials: Used to manage encryption credentials. Here, you can view API subscriptions as well as reset your credentials and “Data Cleanup” data by endpoint.

  • LEA Monitoring: A place to monitor error volumes and common errors.

  • LEA Info: Where you’ll find LEA ID (aka Ed-Fi ID), School ID/Code, the school’s name, and a WIR ID when available.

  • Vendor Resources: Used to post reference materials to clients and DPI.

WISE Home (PROD) hosts the WISE API/ODS applications you have been granted access by the LEA.

WISEdata Portal

Vendors can view data submitted in the UAT environment through the API by using SQL queries or Swagger or request access to the WISEdata Portal. Submit a Vendor Access & Inquiry form Inquiry type - General Question. In the Details section, include the LEA ID and LEA name.

Requesting Access to WISEdata Portal

Once you’ve created your WAMS systems account:

A message will be sent to the LEA’s District Security Administrator who will grant you read-only access to the production environment.

WAMS Account access associated to a Support Role

Vendor roles are designed to operate independently of agency-specific permissions to avoid overlapping access logic. If combined with any agency-level role, it creates a conflict and can cause the application to break. It is recommended that this access be provided to your support team only, and technical staff set up with Ed-Fi Credential access.
