WISEdata Certification & Integration Testing

Each year, around January, the WISEdata Collections team shares requirements for the upcoming school year. It is required for Vendors to attend the Annual Vendor Conference, typically held annually in March, for a review of the changes to data collection or processes and procedures. The certification process ensures interoperability between vendors' products used by Wisconsin's school districts, charter schools, and private schools participating in a parental choice program and WISEdata Ed-Fi applications.

The Wisconsin certification applies to vendors that send data to WISEdata whenever there is a requirement change.  During integration testing (or certification), DPI checks if the vendor’s application does what it’s supposed to do and whether the correct values from the API are used.  DPI conducts live testing sessions with vendors to test the vendor's service integration, their data interpretation, and their UI-specific error conditions.

Vendors have to pass all test cases to become certified for the coming school year before August 1st.

WISEdata Ed-Fi API Certification Process

Prior to Integration Testing :

  • Review the use cases and tech specifications, and complete development and internal testing.

  • Attend the Integration Testing Kick-off Meeting/WISEdata Vendor Pre-Conference, typically scheduled around March.

  • Schedule testing sessions through Eventbrite to work through Wisconsin-specific integration testing.

  • Execute internal testing to support efficient and successfully testing using the documented Use Cases for the upcoming school year.

Participate in DPI & Vendor Integration Testing sessions

  • Note: In early to mid-July, Wisconsin's DPI will issue production credentials to allow the certified vendor to send data for that collection on behalf of the LEA.

Following integration testing and certification:

  • Wisconsin's DPI highly recommends conducting beta testing with one or two LEAs in production. During beta testing, Wisconsin's DPI will review the data submitted and monitor API logs for errors.

  • Wisconsin's DPI encourages vendors and LEAs to review the validation messages and the data, using the Ed-Fi Credential application and the WISEdata Portal to verify that the data sent is what was received in WISEdata Portal and to design input validations on the vendor's product to prevent erroneous data as applicable.

  • Once Wisconsin's DPI, the vendor, and LEA agree that the above steps did not identify any critical issues, the vendor can open up the new collections to additional LEAs.
