Annual WISEdata Ed-Fi Certification

Integrating with Wisconsin DPI’s Ed-Fi REST API is a structured process designed to ensure vendor systems are compatible with WISEdata applications. Certification is required annually to reflect changes in data requirements and maintain data accuracy across Wisconsin school districts, charter schools, and private schools participating in the Parental Choice Program.

Certification is required annually to reflect changes in data requirements and maintain accurate data delivery. In years where no changes apply to certain vendor types (e.g., read-only, special education, discipline, or finance), certification may be grandfathered to the next year.

Ongoing Vendor Expectations

To maintain certified status, vendors are expected to:

  • Attend the Annual WISEdata Vendor Pre-Conference (March)

  • Participate in monthly or ad hoc vendor calls hosted by DPI

  • Communicate with DPI via email, phone, or other channels to address LEA needs and mid-year changes

  • Respond promptly to DPI inquiries and status update requests

Annual Certification Timeline

Phase 1: Pre-Integration (January–March)

  • Review the “What’s New” page for upcoming projects and certification scenarios.
    These are shared online and reviewed during the December/January Monthly Advisory Meetings.

  • Conduct a technical review to prepare for development and gather questions for DPI.

  • Attend the Annual Vendor Conference (typically held in March, in-person and virtual).

Phase 2: Schedule Integration Testing (March-May)

  • Sign Up for WISEdata Integration Testing prior to mid-May
    NOTE: The number of sessions varies by vendor type and year—see the “What’s New” page for guidance.

Phase 3: Integration Testing & Certification (April–July)

LEA participation is not required during this phase.

  • Request OAuth credentials for testing with DPI.

  • Prepare test data using the Ed-Fi Credential Application and WISEdata Sandbox/UAT.

  • Perform internal unit testing to ensure readiness.

  • Participate in live DPI testing sessions to validate API functionality and data accuracy.

  • Fix and retest any identified issues.

  • Achieve certification by passing all test cases before August 1.

Phase 4: Post-Certification & Beta Testing (Strongly encouraged)

  • Conduct beta testing with 1–2 LEAs in production.

  • Validate data using the Ed-Fi Credential Application and WISEdata Portal.

  • Expand access to more LEAs once the vendor confirms no critical issues. Reach out if you need assistance.

  • Once no critical issues are found, open collections to additional LEAs
