What to Submit/retrieve

1.0

Sending the Language of Instruction on the class level as part of Roster data.

LEAs should send the primary “predominant” language of Instruction (not the language of learner).

  • SIS vendors should send the language of Instruction (instructionLanguageDescriptor) on /Section.

  • SIS vendors should send data if a course is taught in other languages. Otherwise, leave as Null/Blank.

  • If instructionLanguageDescriptor is not provided, DPI assumes language of Instruction is Eng.

POST on /section:
instructionLanguageDescriptor: uri://dpi.wi.gov/LanguageDescriptor#ara

2.0

Sending a section for a face-to-face class

SIS vendors must create a Section for any school which references the Course Offering added and includes how course content is provided.

The sequence number on the /sections endpoint should be used to identify which part of the sequence that section belongs to. For year long courses that do not have parts to them, this can be '1'.

  • SIS vendor should sendng the medium of instruction as ‘face-to-face instruction’

POST on /section:
courseOfferingReference:
localCourseCode: LCC-121941
schoolId: 7525
sessionName: Sessions-121941
schoolYear: 2021
sectionIdentifier: Section-121941
mediumOfInstructionDescriptor: uri://dpi.wi.gov/MediumOfInstructionDescriptor#F2F
sequenceOfCourse: 1

3.0

Sending a section for a distance learning instruction

SIS vendors must create a Section for any school which references the Course Offering added and includes how course content is provided.

The sequence number on the /sections endpoint should be used to identify which part of the sequence that section belongs to. For year long courses that do not have parts to them, this can be '1'.

  • SIS vendor should sendng the medium of instruction as 'distance education'

sequenceOfCourse: 1

5.0

Sending a student enrolled in virtual high school a 100%

Virtual schools are considered as any regular school in WISEdata. Therefore, the virtual school should be able to submit an /studentSchoolAssociation (SSA) for the student. They should also be able to submit any course related data as other public schools.

Informational only

6.0

Sending a section for course offered as part of a sequence of multiple parts

There are some courses that are broken down into multiple parts (1 & 2) . Unless the student completes both the parts the full credit allotment for the course would not happen. Also in certain cases, the student might be allowed to take Part 1 in one school year and part 2 in a different school year, but full credits will only be alloted when both the parts are completed. In these cases, the sequence number on the /sections endpoint should be used to identify which part of the sequence that section belongs to.

POST on /section:

7.0

Sending programs on a course section

Starting 2021-22 SY, programs including World Language, Dual Enrollment, Career Education, and more will be collected on the /studentSectionAssociation endpoint under the programpReference.

  • SIS vendors may continue to send programs on the /section endpoint, specifically when all students in the course are participating in the program.

  • One course may be tied to more than one program

  • For a list of programs by school year, see https://dpi.wi.gov/wise/data-elements/sectionprogram

CTE-F Family and Consumer Science Education
CTE-H Health Science Education
CTE-M Marketing Education
CTE-T Technology and Engineering Education
