Project List for the 2022-23 SY
Project Name | Description | Value Add | SIS Req’d ? (Yes/No) | LEA Req’d? (Yes/No) | LEA Type (Public, Choice, All) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
SIS should disable multiple TribalAffiliationDescriptor selection to prevent users from selecting multiple Tribal Affiliation codes. Or at least, SIS should have a check/warning when a student has two Tribal Affiliation codes selected. | To improve data quality as a person can only be a member of one tribe even if they meet the qualifications of more than one Indian nation. | Yes | No | All | |
In support of students who are non-binary meaning they do not identify as either male or female, many LEAs across the State collect a third-gender type on their enrollment forms. However, LEAs are unable to have the third-gender type reflected in their Student Information Systems nor to send it to DPI. This project will allow a gender-nonbinary designation to be reported to WISEdata. | To allow LEAs to report students who have nonbinary genders. | Yes | No | All | |
New exit type and validation rule (warning) and changes to existing validation rules for sensitive cases limited to when a student is 1) abducted and presumed dead, 2) terminally ill and no longer able to receive education services, 3) removed to an unknown location by ICE, or 4) is unable to receive education services for the remainder of the school year due to mental health or addiction treatment and is expected to return during the next school year. | This is a new exit type for the 22/23 school year. A warning is provided to alert LEAs that the ‘CE’ exit type was submitted so they can double-check it was used appropriately for the situation. | Yes | Yes | All | |
The removal of the 'Prior Completion Credential' exit type is in response to SpEd Exit Report which excludes these records and to to eliminate the confusion voiced to DPI regarding when an LEA should use this exit type (PCC). | To simplify Exit Type reporting and ensure that students are correctly reported when they exit. | Yes | N/A | All | |
Current data quality compromises DPI’s ability to correlate student performance with a specific language education program model. Subsequent data will allow for improved analyses of program effectiveness at the student, school, district, and state level. This will impact DPI’s capacity for data-based decisions, program design, educator preparation, technical assistance, and other related systems of support. | To improve data fidelity and to inform systems of support for improving the academic achievement and English language development of ELs in our state. | Yes | Yes | Public | |
Removing State Assessment Type-Alternate (SATA) from WISEdata reporting | Removal of the SATA data element from SIS WISEdata submission. Additionally, L2 validations (removing all errors and warnings surrounding this data) in WISEdata Portal are removed. Districts no longer need to submit this to DPI starting with the Oct 1 CC snapshot at Year End 2021. | Improves district's efficiency in working with and submitting their data to us and removes a low-value data element. Saves work for other high-value projects! | Yes | N/A | All |
There are significant gaps exist, within and across districts, with regard to languages offered, duration of learning, access for ELs and heritage learners, and representation of marginalized sub-groups of learners within language programs. This model change will make our current reality visible so that we may better serve all learners as they prepare for our linguistically and culturally diverse local and global communities. | To build understanding of diverse program types, improve fidelity of data collection and reporting on programs and learner demographics, and to support equity in access to the benefits of world language learning. | Yes | Yes | Public | |
This project to stay current with the latest version of the SCED 9.0 course code. | To provide up-to-date and accurate course codes so that SCED remains relevant and useful to LEAs. | Yes | Yes | Public | |
After a parent gives consent for their child to be evaluated for Special Education eligibility, LEAs are required by law to perform that evaluation within 60 calendar days. Failure to perform the evaluation within 60 days is an instance of noncompliance, which is important for monitoring and for the Special Education team's APR reporting. This project will help record the date of parental consent and the date of the evaluation for special education eligibility in WISEdata Portal and WISEdash for Districts. | To improve the collection, quality, and use of our data about how students are receiving timely evaluation for special education eligibility, which is their right in federal law. | Yes | Yes | Public | |
In an effort to ease LEA administrative burden with reporting PI-1563, DPI will redevelop the SFS Team's WiSFiP application to allow data flow from the SIS to WISEdata and subsequently to WiSFiP. NOTE: 22/23 limited parallel pilot with select LEAs and vendors | Recent experience with the School Level Reporting and High Cost Special Education collections in WiSFiP have demonstrated that many districts continue to have a disconnect between finance, enrollment, and special ed/pupil services in terms of data reporting. Integrating those data elements for finance collections will raise the stakes for data quality, increasing collaboration within districts and further improving our data quality. | Yes (Pilot vendors only) | No | Public | |
Collect student modality from SIS vendors so this data point can be used to understand impact of modality on student performance and other indicators | Provides LEAs a central repository for tracking modality. Allows ingesting of modality to WISEdash for student improvement planning and required ESSER III reporting. Provides key data to help researchers correlate impact of modality to other student outcomes or behaviors. | Yes | Yes | Public | |
Per Chapter 115, Wis, Stats, the wording for 'H' should be 'Deaf and Hard of Hearing' instead of 'Deaf or Hard of Hearing' | To improve data quality and accurately reflect the reflects changes in Chapter 115, Wis. Stats. | Yes | Yes | Public | |
DPI is adding new descriptor values to identify schools offering IB program. This will help the Teaching and Learning in DPI to flag erroneous IB course data submitted from schools who don't have an IB program. | To collect more accurate data so DPI can use it for equity work with IB staff from LEAs. This project will also allow DPI to include an indicator in the School Directory that identifies which schools are IB schools. | Informational only | No | Public | |
This audit is conducted on an annual basis starting October. Auditors use this SIS Test Plan and are required to complete the audit by December 15. SIS vendors must have reports and functionality in their SIS  to assist auditors that perform the September Enrollment Audit. | Wis. Admin. Codes PI 35 and PI 48 require that schools participating in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP), Racine Parental Choice Program (RPCP) or Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP), collectively the Private School Choice Program (PSCP or Choice), obtain a separate audit of the school’s September and January enrollments. | Yes | Yes | Choice | |
This is not a new change; however, DPI found some SIS vendors that do not have ‘Unknown’ as an option for Food Services Eligibility. Valid values are: Free, Reduced, Full-price, and Unknown.
| This data property is used for disaggregated reporting and accountability purposes, EDFacts, E-rate, and certain child nutrition program purposes. | Yes | Yes | All | |
This integration helps LEAs with the retrieval, the potential matches review, and the creation of WISEids for students through their SIS. Moreover, it will reduce the frequency of WISEid file uploads for LEAs. | To allow SIS vendors to build an integrated user interface that provides a more satisfying experience to LEAs. | Yes | No | All | |
This integration helps LEAs to retrieve their students' immunization records from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR) system and ingest them into the SIS. | To saves significant amounts of LEA’s staff time spent on entering student immunization records into the SIS, and to improve the accuracy of immunization data in the SIS. | No | No | All |
