Sending the food service eligibility for a student who stays at the same school until the end of the school year

Each day of a primary enrollment is expected to be covered by a Student School Food Service Program Association (SSFSPA) record, regardless of whether or not the school participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).

  • The Begin Date on /SSFSPA is a required field and should start either on the day the student's enrollment (SSA) began OR on the date when the student began receiving services in the school year.

  • Gaps should not exist in school food service coverage and it should cover the entire enrollment period

  • If there are multiple SSFSPA records, then the Begin Dates and End Dates should not overlap

  • Choice schools, like public schools, are expected to record Economically Disadvantaged Status separate from Food Service Eligibility and report this information to WISEdata.

  • Once a student is documented to be a homeless, migrant, or runaway student, then ‘Free’ is generally effective for the remainder of the school term.

  • The student’s economically disadvantaged status is reported separately from the student’s food service eligibility.

    • A student whose family does NOT meet the NSLP eligibility criteria, but is enrolled in a school participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), should be marked ‘Free’ for Food Services Eligibility and and ‘Not ED’ for Economically Disadvantaged Status.

  • If a student receives services through the Department of Corrections or Department of Health Services, then the student automatically qualifies as economically disadvantaged and eligible for free lunch

Sending the food service eligibility for a student whose food service eligibility was carried over from the previous school year for 30 operating days and

1) a new application has NOT been received;
2) the child's eligibility has NOT been verified by a direct certification list;
3) the child is NOT verified as homeless, migrant or runaway

The student's food service eligibility on the last day of school is valid in next school year for 30 days. After 30 days, the food service eligibility has to be updated.

  • for 30 operating days beginning with the first day of school, the student's eligibility status ('Free' or ‘Reduced’) is carried over from the previous school year.

  • on the the 31st operating day (if a new application has not been received), the student's eligibility status must be reverted to ‘Paid’.

The 30 days from the first day of school:

3.0

Sending the food service eligibility for a student who transfers from School A to School B

When a student ends their primary enrollment (SSA), then the SSFSPA record should be ended on the day their enrollment ends.

  • If the student returns to the school within the same school year or transfers to a new school, the LEA should create a new SSFSPA record starting on the date the student re-enrolls or transfer.

4.0

Sending ‘Unknown' as a Food Services Eligibility

The value “Unknown” must to be available as an option, and reported to WISEdata when selected by the user. For schools not participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), National School Lunch Program (NSLP), or Seamless Summer Option (SSO) and using the alternate household income form for WISEdata reporting, they should report a student identified as economically disadvantaged on this form as “True” and “Unknown” for Food Service Eligibility.

  • SIS vendors must have ‘Unknown’ an option for Food Services Eligibility in the SIS.
